How did the Program begin?

The program was created as a result from the search of crops for diversification that would provide better opportunities for producers.

To determine the avocado as one of the ideal crops for this program, some elements were taken into consideration. Some of them are:

Opportunity for farmers to earn better income

Crop’s long term sustainability

Beneficial properties of the crop

Resistance to plagues and diseases

Increasing demand in the global market

Avocado from the Highlands

Currently, the programa accounts for 352.8 hectares of HASS avocado from the smallholder farmers in the Western Highlands of Guatemala.

smallholder farmers in Huehuetenango, Quiché, San Marcos and Totonicapán receive technical assistance from Project.

Thanks to this agricultural technical assistance, the smallholder farmers obtain:

Productive Strengthening Program and Market Access

The smallholder farmers located in Huehuetenango, Quiché, San Marcos and Totonicapán receive technical assistance from Proinnova, this is composed by:

We  work on strenghtening the business model knowledge  of the producers with activiities such as:

  • Market Access workshops 

  • Business and administration training for their organizations

  • Business rounds and meetings 

  • Business linking
